Hello again, readers! It’s Gretchen, back with a Friday story for this chilly mid-October morning, October 14, 2022.
It’s still dark out, but about an hour ago I looked out the window to find that the rain we had overnight had turned to… snow. I gasp!ed. Then reached for a coffee mug, the one I only use during the fall that reads, “Oh my gourd.”
Oh, my gourd, it snowed overnight.
Bring on the coffee.
Speaking of coffee, we have a mystery on our hands at the Anthony house. Last week I received a FedEx package stuffed with three half-pound bags of Kona coffee beans direct from the big island of Hawaii. Inside was a handwritten note from the roaster that read, “Welcome to the club!”
Thank you?
I’m a mid-level coffee snob, so any day I receive airmailed Kona beans direct from the source is a good day. The mystery, however, is… why are they here?
A list of the evidence I’ve gathered so far:
My husband and I took the boys to Hawaii this summer for vacation and had a fantastic, memorable, trip-for-the-ages time. It’s possible I signed up for something while I was there.
If I did sign up, I enrolled in a magical club because no charges have hit the credit card yet.
The coffee could be a gift from a friend or loved one, though I’ve been asking and so far, no one has fessed up.
It’s also possible my friends or family did enroll me in a coffee club, knowing how curious I’d get, and are now enjoying gaslighting me.
I could easily call or email the company to inquire, but that would take time and energy, and isn’t writing a podcast episode about the mystery easier?
In case you’re wondering, yes, the coffee is great. One of the roasts has notes of toffee. Even better, we were running low on beans when the package arrived.
Ooh, maybe I have a fairy godmother. Oh, my gourd.
That’s it for this week, readers. If you have the answer to my mystery, leave it in the comments. Or don’t. Either way, I’m going to pour myself another cup and get back to work.
And feel free to share my newsletter with your friends!
Talk to ya next time,
Gretchen
